Things are getting spicy over here in the Mindfully Well kitchen! The weather is warming up and so are our tastebuds with this Spicy Turkey Chorizo. Authentic, flavorful, and ready in less than 15 minutes – what’s not to love?
(Not so) Pro-tips for your chorizo:
Your first step should be to make sure your ground turkey is thawed – I made this mistake and had to run the package under lukewarm water for a few minutes. Don’t be like me!
I also recommend measuring out your spices before you start browning the turkey. This way you can mix them all together and add them at once while the turkey is browning, ensuring even distribution and a great depth of flavor for your chorizo.
This Spicy Turkey Chorizo is perfect for tacos, stuffed peppers, or as a topper for a salad. I highly recommend pairing it with some avocado and cotija cheese š
A note on nutrition…
Ground turkey is lower in fat and saturated fat than ground pork (per the USDA Food and Nutrient Database), which is how chorizo is traditionally made. Reducing your total fat and saturated fat intake can be helpful in reducing your heart diseaseĀ risk.1 This isn’t to say you shouldn’t enjoy pork chorizo – this is just an option if you’re interested in a lighter alternative or have high cholesterol or increased heart disease risk.
